GRP Records recently released an excellent tribute
to Luther Vandross, entitled “Forever, For Always,
For Luther. This project is a collection of smooth
jazz renditions of Luther’s beloved songs,
performed by some of the biggest names in the
music industry.
As Luther recovers from his medical situation, the
outpouring of love for everyone’s favorite R&B

crooner continues. “Forever, For Always, For Luther” captures his soulful
spirit, with all proceeds from the sales to be contributed to find a cure
for diabetes.
You’ll enjoyed the jazzy yet faithful versions of “Any Love” featuring
Saxman Kirk Whalum, the stylish guitar playing of Paul Jackson Jr on
“Never Too Much”, and the romantic “If Only For One Night”, as
performed by Dave Koz and Brian Culbertson.
Neo-Soul singer Ledisi creates a nice dance groove on “My Sensitivity”,
while jazz legend George Benson keeps the vibe going on “Take You
Out”. The first single “Forever, For Always, For Love” is given an
emotional, heart-warming treatment by vocalist extraordinaire, Lalah
Hathaway.
Great music by great artists, for all the right reasons; “Forever, For
Always, For Luther”
Ingognito "Adventures In The Black Sunshine"
|
“Adventures In The Black Sunshine” is the title of
the new CD from Incognito, which reunites Co-
founder Jean-Paul “Bluely” Maunick and Maysa
Leak, considered by many as the voice of the
group.
It appears that the pair have picked up where
they left off, turning out a heavy dose of funky

acid jazz and smoothed out lounge music, a genre that they pioneered.
Maysa appears on 7 of the 14 tracks. “Fences and Barriers”, “Autumn
Song”, “True To Myself”, and “Don’t Turn Away” all have her signature
mid-tempo jazzy groove. For you club music lovers out there, Ms Leak’s
vocal performance on “The Principle Of Love” will have you steppin’.
The group delivers some hard driving, funkified rhythms on “Minding My
Business”, “The World Is Mine”, and “The 25th Chapter”. It’s the kinda
like the Blackbyrds, Pleasure, and Herbie Hancock (Headhunters era),
meeting Down To The Bone. It is jazz fusion at it’s best.
Before the summer is over, hook-up with Bluely, Maysa, and the
Incognito crew for “Adventures In The Black Sunshine”
Novecento featuring Stanley Jordan “Dreams Of Peace"
|
Veteran guitarist Stanley Jordan joins forces with
the Italian jazz group Novecento, and the result is
a new CD entitled “Dreams Of Peace”. This is
Stanley’s first studio project in a decade. This
collaborate effort touches all edges of the jazz
genre. It’s smooth, sometimes funky, and times
twists into powerful fusion jazz.
“Tell Me Something” starts the set off with a new age/ambient sound
anchored by the vocals of Dora Nicolosi. “Flying On The Sky”, “Too Close
To The Sun”, and Destination Of My Heart, are more in the smooth jazz
realm, with Stanley and his guitar playing a prominent role.
The mood switches drastically on “Sky Flower”, featuring the vocals of
Gregg Brown, and “Spring” which integrate some rock elements, which
one would expect to hear on a Santana jam. “Easy Love” is a nice mid-
tempo piece with a bit of aggressive guitar playing from Stanley driving
the rhythm.
Overall, “Dreams Of Peace” by Novecento featuring Stanley Jordan is a
pleasant surprise. Progressive, yet smooth, just right for the listener
willing to taste all flavors on the jazz menu.
