“Colour Me Free” is the name of the most recent CD from Joss Stone. You didn’t know that she had new music out? Don’t feel bad, I found out by chance. It’s available as an import, and has very limited distribution in the states. What a shame…..

Joss hits her stride on this CD, releasing a project that is a music lover’s delight. Simply put, this is the best album of here career. A collection of Soul, Pop, and Blues, that will have you craving more.

For those of us that like there music good & funky, you’ll enjoy the hard driving rhythms of “Parallel Lines”, “Incredible”, You Got The Love”, the politically charged “Govermentalist” featuring NAS, along with my favorites “Big Ol’ Game” and “Could Have Been You”, which feature a down-home soul backbeat that won’t quit.

Joss has always been able to light a fire under a slow song. The tradition continues on “Girlfriend On Demand”, “Lady’, and the bluesy “4 and 20″. For those of you that have never seen Ms. Stone perform live, “Mr Wanker Man”, will give you a very accurate preview of her stage prowness.

Multi-Grammy nominated jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon has released her latest CD, “Homefree” on Concord Jazz, her first studio recording since 2005.

Recorded in North Carolina, Ms Freelon delivers a relaxed, confident performance of songs that have become staples of her concert repertoire

This collection of American standards will engage all of your music senses. The album kicks off with a swingin’ rendition of “The Lamp Is Low”, followed by the really cool flow of “I Feel Pretty”, the Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim West Side Story classic.

Nneena is smooth as silk on “Theme from The Valley Of The Dolls”, than injects a touch of Caribbean flavor into Cole Porter’s “Get Out Of Town”

“Cell Phone Blues” is a Freelon original, that weaves the tale of love in the wireless age, I’m sure we all can relate to.

Nneena closes “Homefree” with contemporary reworks of two anthems, “Lift Every Voice & Sing”, which will surprise many, and “America The Beautiful”.

Soul/Jazz Diva Maysa Leak has released a brand new CD, “A Woman In Love”, her fourth for the Shanachie Entertainment imprint. Once again, Maysa delivers the quality performance we have become accustomed to.

On “A Woman In Love”, Ms Leak returns to her roots as she brings her unique vocal styling to a few of her favorite Jazz standards, along side soulful original compositions. This diverse song list is the perfect vehicle for Maysa to display her artistic range.

The CD begins with the Latin flavored “Am I Wrong (For Lovin’ You)”, which immediately draws you in. That is followed by “Love Theory”, the radio friendly R&B duet that features Will Downing. The title track “A Woman In Love” is an engaging melodic danceable track, while “Honey Bee” has a thumpin’ mid-tempo infectious downbeat that caresses Maysa’s sensual vocal.

On the Jazz side, Ms Leak continues to impress with a funky, yet faithful rendition of Monk’s “Round Midnight”. She breathes new life into the classic ballads “Willow Weep For Me”, “When I Fall In Love”, and “What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life”.

Maysa also pays tribute to the late Michael Jackson, with a stirring version of “The Lady In My Life”.

“Sunday Morning” is the title for the just released CD by Euge Groove on the Shanachie Entertainment label. Euge is back with a rather soothing collection of Jazz songs, on which he was involved in writing most of the material and co-producing the project.

Euge has settled into a soulful mid-tempo groove on what many of his followers believe is his best work to date. “As You Like It”, “Say My Name”, “On Your Knees”, and the title track “Sunday Morning”, are a few of the standouts.

“Yes”, is a nice vocal track featuring Dax Reynosa, while “Tenderly” is a romantic mood setter.

Veteran saxophonist Everette Harp has just released his aptly titled “First Love” CD on Shanachie Entertainment. This outstanding project is produced by George Duke.

On “First Love’, Everette, known to many through his many Smooth Jazz albums, will take his audience on an excursion into the more traditional contemporary jazz genre. The project kicks off with “The Council Of Nicea”, a straight ahead leaning piece that includes a tinge of Latin rhythms.

If you like your Jazz on the edgy, funky side, you’ll enjoy “Departure”, while “Texas Groove” and “Soul Fries” gives you funk with a southern backbeat. For those of us who are a bit laid-back, Everette explores the gentler side of Jazz on “Central Park West”, “Before You Leave” and “Blossom”.

“Beautiful Mess”: New Music by Swing Out Sister

Over the years, I’ve become a big fan of British Soul music. It’s something about the jazzy, melodic, soulful sounds that capture my ear. Swing Out Sister has always been one of my favorite groups from across the pond, so I was pleasantly surprised when I received a copy of their new CD, “Beautiful Mess”.

Swing Out Sister, fronted by vocalist Corrine Drewery and keyboardist Andy Connell, after 20+ years and 9 albums continues to create an eclectic musical mix of R&B/Soul, Jazz, and Latin rhythms, infused with the Pop grooves of the late 60s/early 70s.

“Beautiful Mess” is the perfect CD for a carefree day. There is a nice variety of songs with engaging lyrics that will sweep you away to a place where your mind can run free. The project begins with the mid-tempo “Something Every Day” which sets the pace for the CD. You’ll also enjoy the groovy sound of “Butterfly”, the retro rhythm track of “I’d Be Happy”, and future fan favorite “My State Of Mind”.
