“A Humble Old Soul” – Chrisette Michele
A Humble Old Soul
by Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughns
On May 5, 2009, there was the celebration of Cinco de Mayo and the return of one of music’s hottest female vocalists ~ Chrisette Michele. A humble old soul with style and passion. Most of her fans are still listening and embracing her first project “I Am” and the song “If I Have My Way”. True music buffs questioned who was she? Where did she come from? While praying that she would not be a fly by night artist. It’s a beautiful thing when prayers are answered. And L.A. Reid isn’t the only one she gives goose bumps to. Chrisette Michele possesses a flexible voice that allows one to feel what she is feeling whenever she belts a note.
I give my two thumbs and a few others thumbs up on the direction of her sophomore CD Epiphany. The flow is sweet nice from track 1. My favorite is number 2 ~ “Note Book.” I would love to see a video for this one. I’ll be playing track number 5 ~ “All I Ever Think About” until I see the words floating around in my car. I get an EnVogue vibe on the track titled “Mr. Right.” I have deemed the song “Porcelain Doll” the new women’s anthem. There will be many of her female fans saying, “I know that’s right, I’m a grown woman and I need to treated like so!!!” This is another one I’d love to see a video for.
Honestly, the production on this album is smooth, jazzy, funky and old school. Of course, Ne-Yo did what he truly does best on five of the twelve songs featured on Epiphany. Claude Kelly is awesome with the vocal production. He is definitely a star at StudioBeast, LLC. The deeply rooted music lover in me thought Prince, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and Janet on a few tracks. The lyrics will make listeners say, “That’s my story right now or I’ve been there.”
To sum it all up, Chrisette Michele came back hard and strong. It may be too early but I’m already anticipating her third release, and we all know that three is a charm. The reflection of her character and personality.
Thank you Chrisette Michele for blessing our ears, heart and soul.
