Masya: “Metamorphosis” – New Jazzy Soul Music
She’s Back!!!! All is right in the music world now that Maysa has released her latest solo CD, appropriately entitled “Metamorphosis”. It’s a superb collection of R&B, Jazzy Soul, Dance tracks, and silky smooth ballads that we’ve come to expect from this truly independent artist. She proudly declares, “My vision for this album was to change the music a bit to be in line with the way I feel spiritually, and emotionally”.
“Metamorphosis” is Maysa’s 7th solo album, her third on the Shanachie label, and I would venture to say, her best to date. The project begins with the easy flowin’ jazzy dance tune “Simpatico”, a Maysa specialty. “Let’s Figure It Out”, undeniably merges the Jazz and Dance genres. It starts out as a really cool instrumental piece featuring the guitar licks of Nick Colionne, then out of the blue morphs into a hot dancefloor anthem, with Maysa singing and scatting her heart out.
“Never Really Ever”, is a nice mid-tempo song, perfect for radio airplay worldwide. “Take Me Away”, another nice song which weaves in a nice sample of Jean Carn’s classic, “Don’t Let It Go To Your Head”. “I Need A Man” is a socially conscious anthem that promotes the need to rebuild the loving family structure. A special “Obama” Remix has been created because the Presidential candidate has addressed this same subject during his campaign.

Have no fear, Maysa has the jazzy rhythms percolating on “Happy Feelings”, written and produced by Angela Johnson, along with the Brazilian melodies of “Higher Love”. You’ll enjoy the soothing vocal interpretations of the ballads, “Walk Away” and “Grateful”.
Get ready to be mesmerized by “Metamorphosis”, another fine performance from Maysa.
